St. John Chrysostom Clergy Syndesmos Pre-Lenten Retreat

On February 7th and 8th, over 60 priests from the Direct Archdiocesan District gathered at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, Long Island, for a Pre Lenten retreat, where His Grace Bishop Andonios conveyed the greetings and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, who because of a conflict, was unable to attend.

Major themes discussed during this retreat were on "Prayers for Difficult Times" and "Prayer, Scripture & Dialogue with God." Fr John Lardas, the President of the Clergy Syndesmos, and his fellow committee members, organized this retreat to have the brotherhood of priests gather in fellowship and faith.

Rev. Fr. Eugene Pentiuc, professor of Old Testament studies at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, and Dr. Albert Rossi, of St Vladimir's Seminary, spoke on these topics and offered energetic discussions and lectures.

On the evening of the 7th, all the retreat participants were hosted for dinner and an impromptu birthday celebration for Fr John Lardas. The following morning, before departure, His Grace led the brotherhood in a Divine Liturgy, commemorating St. Theodore.

It certainly turned out to be a worthy retreat, offering opportunities for break-out discussion groups, leisure time, and several moments for His Grace Bishop Andonios to warmly address the priests.

The next gathering of the St. John Chrysostom Clergy Syndesmos will take place in June at the Church of St. Nicholas in Flushing, NY.
